Course: 14 laps of a completely flat and almost straight section of approx. 3 km across the entire island, dirt road (through the village, jungle and partly ocean-front). Spectacular finish line on the bikini beach. The course is partially shaded.
What you get: personalised bib, bespoke medal and/or T-shirt (for those interested and for a fee, designs in progress), refreshment point at the start/finish (water and snacks), timing (if we don't get it right - own time (with no pausing allowed), a recognized solution used in the case of some small races, toilets in guesthouses along the route. Prizes (trophies for winners: men and women)
Logistics: Flights to Male, Maldives. Boat transfers to and from Male Island are USD 130 per person. An bumpy adventure in itself. The speedboat covers a distance of over 120 km in two hours. Garmin showed me that at times it reached a speed of 41 knots (we will ask the helmsman to add a knot - a marathoner’s joke alert!).
Accommodation: local guesthouses cost approximately USD 85 per day including breakfast per couple. Of course there are cheaper and more expensive options. The island has few beds, you need to book now. The first participants have already booked almost all the rooms in the very good guest house Three Hearts (checked by me personally). The owner expects a 10% non-refundable deposit. The remaining part is payable on site. Contact via website (google Three Hearts Fulhadhoo) or WhatsApp: +9607581450. Other options include e.g. Azoush: +9607976862 or Palms Retreat: +9609416546. Azouch is a basic place. USD 85 per night for a double room. Palms Retreat is rather posh. They charge USD 165-185 per night. Average meal prices: from USD 7 for e.g. delicious rice with tuna and vegetables to USD 18 for e.g. tuna steak. Fresh local catch. NOTE: the island has a very limited number of accommodation places. It is estimated that there are approximately 100-150 guests there at any one time, which means that you do need to book now since the island is likely to be sold out soon. The place is not over-populated, there are no crowds and the beaches are almost empty. Locals are not fond of booking platforms. They prefer their websites or whatsapp.
Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation of the Republic of Maldives is giving green light to organising Fulhadhoo Marathon 2025 - the race will be official. A majority of organisations associating marathon runners consider the race to be official if 15 participants take part in it. Currently, we have 29 confirmed participants plus their families (they have already booked accommodation by paying their advance payments). This means that the run will be official! This also means they have already booked approx. 1/3 of the Fulhadhoo beds. You need to book accommodation asap.
Our grace period is over. The entry fee is now GBP 80 / Euro 95 / USD 110
